What is play?

Children play naturally. Almost everything they do is play. Watch children run, laugh, climb, crawl, and just enjoy themselves. That’s play!

Why don’t adults play?

There is something that happens to us when we become adults. We take on these preconceived roles that our culture has dictated. We often lose a very important part of what makes us who we are. We lose the enjoyment and activities of play.

Why is play important?

It’s important to your stress level and your happiness quotient that you have at least one activity that you do regularly just for fun. Hobbies and other fun activities provide a fun way to sharpen skills, express your creativity, or just blow off steam. Also, when you get really engrossed in an activity you enjoy, you can experience a state of being know as flow, in which your brain is in a near-meditative state, which has benefits for your for your body, mind and soul.

Play and perfectionism

Play fosters our ability to learn how to lose and fail. This helps us go against our inner perfectionist. It allows us to learn about resilience and that failure is only temporary and we continue on after, there is always another game.

Play teaches us to not take ourselves too seriously and that it is ok to let your guard down.

You have to not worry about being silly in order to help others and that the laughter of the group is not at you but with you.

Play teaches us to persevere

Play and social skills.

  1. Playing in groups allows us to increase our social skills.
  2. How to deal with loss
  3. How to deal with confrontations
  4. That sometimes it is important to lose so that others will feel like they are also important.
  5. Co operation and teamwork.
  6. Being part of a group makes us feel important
  7. Innovation
